Checkered Keelback

The Checkered Keelback, known scientifically as Xenochrophis piscator, is a prevalent freshwater snake in Thailand. Recognizable by its distinct checkered pattern, this semi-aquatic reptile frequents environments like rivers and rice fields, thriving particularly near freshwater sources. Although non-venomous, it can become aggressive when threatened, often feeding on amphibians and small fish. Its name "Keelback" is derived from the ridged, or keeled, scales adorning its body, offering an added layer of camouflage amidst aquatic vegetation.
