Loy Krathong (Festival of Lights)
Loy Krathong, Thailand’s enchanting Festival of Lights, is celebrated annually on the full moon of the 12th lunar month, usually in November. This magical event honors the goddess of water, Phra Mae Khongkha, and symbolizes gratitude, renewal, and letting go of negativity. People release beautifully crafted krathongs floating baskets adorned with flowers, candles, and incense into rivers and ponds, creating a stunning display of flickering lights on the water. In some regions, such as Chiang Mai, the celebration coincides with Yi Peng, where thousands of paper lanterns illuminate the night sky. Accompanied by traditional dances, fireworks, and local festivities, Loy Krathong is a culturally rich and visually breathtaking celebration that invites everyone to partake in its beauty and meaning.
