According to local lore, the rock formations are the shipwrecked bodies of an old couple who were turned to stone. It is believed that the man and woman were on their way to ask for the hand of a young woman on behalf of their son. But their boat was caught in a storm and they died at sea. Legend has it that the rocks are proof of their true intentions.
